CONGRATULATIONS! March 5, 2020

A dedication – during the inauguration and blessing of the new main office building of Mt. View Funeral Homes Services, Inc. (MVFHSI) on March 8, 2020 at Inayagan, City of Naga, Cebu, Philippines:

…..

Beloved family, relatives, and dear friends and guests:

Today, as we celebrate and bless the completion of this new multi-million-peso facility, we express our heartfelt gratitude and congratulations to everyone who made this possible, especially to my sister Ma. Magdalena Alforque who dedicated most of her energy and effort to achieve this great milestone. This is a momentuos occasion not only for our family, but also for all our friends and relatives, and, of course, for the whole Mt. View staff and clients network.

Many years ago, when my father, Nemecio Alforque, went into the kingdom of heaven to join my mother, Ines or Mama Nene Alforque, we contracted with a leading funeral services company to provide for his burial services. Including his hospitalization bills and special care nurses before he passed away, we spent a ton of money.  As a consequence, we wondered how could the other very poor members of our family, and relatives, and friends be able to afford a decent burial nowadays?

And, thus, the idea of starting a funeral services business was born.

For me, in particular, I am very happy that a small idea predicated on helping others, evolved into a large network that, now, provides important services to everyone. My original intention when we started this business many years ago, was to provide a little help to my poor family members and also to our friends and relatives especially those from the mountain barangay of Cantaoan where we were born and raised as children of a very poor and struggling family.  I did not want it to be a simple “handout”, however, but an investment like a plant that can sprout and grow into a tree and develop strong roots, branches, leaves, and fruits – and someday, with God’s grace, we will be able to share with everyone.

As we are gathered here today, I must declare that we have climbed the mountain, and have reached the peak where the tree of Mt. View proudly stands and grows and flourishes! We are forever grateful to the Omnipotent Lord for his blessing as we share the fruits of our labor.

Lastly, I wish I could be with you physically today, but recent developments triggered by the spread of the Corona virus, or Covid-19, made it exceedingly risky for me to travel to come home to Cebu, Philippines from New York, USA. But I am with you always in thought and spirit. Thank you all for sharing with us this momentuos occasion! God bless us all!
